If you’ve been to Key West, chances are you’ve passed by the Carriage House Cottage without even taking notice. But that’s not for lack of its artistic charm or historic interest. Rather, it is the ubiquitous archway framing the 1800’s horse carriage pass-through that would have caught your eye, for there is nothing quite like it anywhere else on the island. But when you stop and take a closer look, a private front porch framed in Victorian gingerbread trim, point to the front door entrance hinting that inside is a charming cottage with all the comforts of home.

The front door steps right into the open living room / kitchen area. Walls throughout the cottage painted in light soothing colors with pine planked walls pickled in some rooms to show the beauty of the original pine wood grain. The rooms feel spacious and airy with 12 foot ceilings and plenty of sash windows invite in the sunlight. A nice mix of tropically stylish furniture, restored antiques, and tasteful artwork make you feel at home. The living room has a queen sleeper sofa to offer additional sleeping if desired. Best for up to 4 people but will sleep 6.

The pass-through kitchenette is remodeled with dark green pottery tiles, a nice contrast with the white cabinetry. Furnished with a counter stove top, microwave, and full-size euro refrigerator, a standing height counter connects the living room and kitchen, making it easy to snack and set up for cocktails.

To find the bedrooms, pass through the kitchenette to the hallway that runs down one side of the building. Each bedroom offers a comfortable queen size bed, and both are left uncluttered with a pretty combination of tropical and antique furnishings, keeping with the Victorian – tropical theme of the cottage. The shared bathroom is located near the living room / kitchen area. Original plank board walls in the bathroom are painted bright white, and the bathtub with in-tub shower is retro-fitted with sage green tile. A free-standing sink and modern fixtures create an inviting setting.
