When rented together, we call the property the Lazy Iguana, and it’s available to rent together from May 2016 through the night of January 2, 2017. Off-the-beaten path of most tourist homes and harkening back to the last bastion of Key West bohemia, the Lazy Iguana vacation rental is a fixture of the remaining literary old guard in Key West. With this property you will enjoy beautiful authenticity that pre-dates the last decade of rapid gentrification on Key West with comfort, style, and privacy.

We invite you to laze-away the hot summer days or unwind your mind in tropical autumn, in the cooling freshness of this genuine Key West tropical pool garden property. While sun sizzles on the white sandy beaches, turquoise waters surrounding the island warm to a luxurious temperature beckoning those who love to spend their down-time in the tropics.

But Key West is famous for its refreshing tropical gardens too, and in the warm seasons lush island flora strike their pose with vibrant orange blooms of flamboyant Poinciana and brilliant climbing red and purple bougainvillea. Fuzzy fragrant pink flowers sprout from exotic mimosa trees and tiny fragrant white stars of night blooming jasmine invite you to retreat to the garden. Take a deep breath, refresh your spirit with a dip the pool, then flop down on a garden chaise – to be still and get just plain lazy – like an iguana in the garden.

Property Layout: This property offers a spacious 3 bedroom 2.5 bath mid-century home and a private studio cottage with newly renovated kitchenette and private bathroom.

Main House – The floor plan of the main house has a traditional mid-century layout with the three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms that are off the hall that connect to the living room.

There are two master bedrooms in the main house. The key-lime green master bedroom has an en-suite private bath, king size bed, and little garden space for reading and relaxation. A second master bedroom across the hall offers a queen size bed and has a new custom renovated en-suite bathroom that features oversize windows above the tub, glass block, with an oversized shower with seamless glass doors, oversized vanity with a black granite top, and walls finished with knotty pine and tile.

The third (spare) bedroom, also off the hall, is cozy and painted a deep tropical forest green. Bedding is a trundle bed that offers one or two twins. The half bath (i.e. free-standing sink and commode) are directly across the hall from the third bedroom.

Studio Cottage – The brilliantly renovated studio cottage with spacious sleeping loft, is set up as a writers retreat and is a perfect office space as well as private living area. Complete with spacious candy apple red kitchenette and private bathroom with shower, the downstairs provides a living room area with a sofa, writing desk and large flat screen TV. Climb the ladder to the loft and find a private sleeping cuddle nook with king size bed. Downstairs across from the writing desk is a twin size bed for napping or sleeping on the ground floor.

Main House – 1 queen size bed, 1 king size bed, and 1 trundle bed (2 twins).
Studio Cottage – 1 king bed (in loft) 1 twin bed on first floor
Special Features: Very large swimming pool and fun outdoor cabana entertaining area; Baby Grand Piano. Close to the beach. Newly renovated private studio cottage with kitchenette, bathroom, and sleeping loft.

Amenities: Large swimming pool (heat optional) with large garden, fenced yard, full kitchen, kitchen, private studio / office, A/C, W/D, color cable TV’s, BBQ grill, C/D player and stereo. Linens and towels provided, easy neighborhood parking next to house.

Area: The property is very unique for a Key West weekly rental in that it is located in a quiet residential area away from most vacation rentals that are licensed to rent weekly. Situated on corner lot, there are neighbors only on one side. There is plenty of room to lounge at the pool in the large garden area.

Activities: Higgs Beach and Salute Restaurant on Higgs Beach, White Street Pier, Rest Beach, tennis courts, West Martello Fort (Key West Garden Club) are a 5 minute walk from the house. Down the street from the White Street Gallery neighborhood where you find Fausto’s Fine Food Palace for groceries, shopping, galleries, and restaurant. All Old town Key West features including, museums, sailing, boating, snorkeling, diving, theatre, night life, family activities an easy bike ride away.

Restrictions: Smoke Free House. The property is located in a residential neighborhood and is definitely not suitable for staging loud parties. This property is not “child-proof”. We do not accept guests less than 25 years of age unless accompanied by a family group or guardian. No pets.
